Nolan R. Nicely Jr.

Nolan is a life long resident of Alleghany County, Virginia.  He graduated from Alleghany High School and attended Hampden-Sydney College.  At Hampden-Sydney College, Nolan was a double major in managerial economics and history. His distinguished academic career at Hampden-Sydney College included being elected to multiple academic societies including Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Alpha Theta and Omicron Delta Epsilon. He also received the President’s Award for Social Sciences and the Thomas Bliss Hart Award. Nolan graduated Summa Cum Laude from Hampden-Sydney in 1991, finishing number 3 in his class. 

Following graduation, he attended the University of Virginia School of Law in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he was involved in several law school organizations and the Virginia Tax Review.  His activities at the University of Virginia included extensive work on a legal research publication for the Virginia Tax Review.
Following his graduation from law school in 1994, Nolan returned home to Alleghany County and has worked with Bill Wilson and Russ Updike since that time.  Nolan primarily focuses his attention on technical legal issues, legal research, discovery and appellate practice issues. He is a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers’ Association and has served on several committees with the VTLA including the Amicus Committee, Litigation Support Committee and Insurance Committee. He is also the current Treasurer for the Alleghany Bath Highland Bar Association.

Nolan is an avid hunter and fisherman and is actively involved in his church. He lives in eastern Alleghany County, and he and his wife, Hope, have recently completed their life-long dream of building a log home.
